RECOGNISING A STROKE
Remember these 4 steps ( S, T, R AND T)
- S: Ask the individual to smile
- T: Ask the person to talk and speak a simple sentence coherently, eg It is sunny out today
- R: Ask him to raise both arms
- T: Ask him to stick out his tongue. If the tongue is ‘crooked’, if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call the emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher
DRINKING WARM WATER
The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals, not cold water. Maybe it’s time we adopt their drinking habit while eating. For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this 'sludge' reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and that can lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.
COMMON SYMPTOMS OF HEART ATTACK…
A serious note about heart attacks - You should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.
You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up. Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive.
STEAMED & SALTED ORANGE CURES COUGH

Cut off the top part of the orange, add a teaspoon of salt into the orange, and replace the top part and fix it with a toothpick. EATING FRUIT ON AN EMPTY STOMACH
We all think eating fruits means just buying fruits, cutting it and just popping it into our mouths. It's not as easy as you think. It's important to know how and when to eat.
What is the correct way of eating fruits?
IT MEANS NOT EATING FRUITS AFTER YOUR MEALS! FRUITS SHOULD BE EATEN ON AN EMPTY STOMACH.
If you eat fruit like that, it will play a major role to detoxify your system, supplying you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other life activities.
FRUIT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FOOD. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but it is prevented from doing so.
In the meantime the whole meal rots and ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to spoil....
So please eat your fruits on an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard people complaining — every time I eat watermelon I burp, when I eat durian my stomach bloats up, when I eat a banana I feel like running to the toilet, etc — actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit on an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the putrefying other food and produces gas and hence you will bloat!
Graying hair, balding, nervous outburst, and dark circles under the eyes all these will NOT happen if you take fruits on an empty stomach.
There is no such thing as some fruits, like orange and lemon are acidic, because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Shelton who did research on this matter. If you have mastered the correct way of eating fruits, you have the Secret of beauty, longevity, health, energy, happiness and normal weight.
When you need to drink fruit juice - drink only fresh fruit juice, NOT from the cans. Don't even drink juice that has been heated up. Don't eat cooked fruits because you don't get the nutrients at all. You only get to taste. Cooking destroys all the vitamins.
But eating a whole fruit is better than drinking the juice. If you should drink the juice, drink it mouthful by mouthful slowly, because you must let it mix with your saliva before swallowing it. You can go on a 3-day fruit fast to cleanse your body. Just eat fruits and drink fruit juice throughout the 3 days and you will be surprised when your friends tell you how radiant you look!

The results show that, over a long timeframe (13.4 years), women eating more than 2.5 servings of fruits and vegetable per day cut their risk of kidney cancer by 40%. Among the fruits, bananas were especially protective. Women eating bananas four to six times a week halved their risk of developing the disease compared to those who did not eat this fruit. The conclusion of the study is that frequent consumption of fruits and vegetables, especially bananas, cabbage and root vegetables, may reduce risk of kidney cancer. This is because bananas and many root vegetables contain especially high amounts of antioxidant phenolic compounds, while cabbage is rich in sulfur, necessary for effective detoxification of potential carcinogens.

1. Deter ants:

2. Kill grass and weeds growing in cracks in your driveway:
Tired of weeding your driveway? Sprinkle salt on the grass and pour very hot water over it. Not only is this a highly effective way to kill unwanted plants, it’s also eco-friendly and cheap.
3. Say goodbye to fleas:
If your dogs have fleas, simply wash their doghouse and blankets in salt water. If you’re worried your dogs may have brought fleas into your house, simply sprinkle your carpets lightly with salt and then brush it in. Leave it for 12 hours and vacuum thoroughly.
4. Pick up a dropped egg:
If you drop an egg on the kitchen floor, sprinkle salt on the mess and leave it there for 20 minutes. You'll be able to wipe it right up.

WHAT IS CHOLESTEROL?

ASPRIN AND HEART ATTACKS
Dr. Virend Somers, a cardiologist from the Mayo Clinic who is lead author of the report in the July 29, 2008 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
Most heart attacks occur in the day, generally between 6 A.M. And noon, Somers said. Having one during the night, when the heart should be most at rest, means that something unusual happened. Somers and his colleagues have been working for a decade to show that sleep apnea is to blame.
1. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night. The reason: aspirin has a 24-hour "half-life". Therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the aspirin would be strongest in your system.
2. FYI, aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest.......years. (when it gets old, it smells like vinegar)

About Heart Attacks
There are other symptoms of a heart attack besides the pain on the left arm.
One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots ofsweating; however, these symptoms may also occur less frequently. Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack. The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep, did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.
If that happens, immediately dissolve Two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water.
Afterwards:
- call 082 911
- phone a neighbour or a family member who lives very close by
- say "heart attack!"
- say that you have taken 2 aspirins.
- take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, And wait for their arrival and....
do NOT lie down

BURNS
Cold water is the best treatment. The point is to reduce the temperature of the region as quickly as possible in order to stop the burning effect. Water has the best thermal conductivity and instantly conforms to any surface. That means it reaches the entire area that is immersed in it - immediately.
Ice by itself is not so good, since getting skin too cold can be as bad as being burned.
TIPS TO CONTROL AND STOP BLEEDING OF A CUT:
1. Salt and water: Mix some warm water and salt together is a small cup. Place this onto a rag making sure it's pretty saturated. Then keep blotting the cut with this solution. The bleeding will stop after 2 minutes or so. It will not burn you at all.
2. Flour: Good old white flour does magic almost instantly. Place some flour directly onto your cut. This will work in seconds and the bleeding should stop.
3. Cornflour: This is the same technique as the flour and it will also stop the bleeding.
4. Tea bag: Take a regular tea bag and run it under cold water. Make sure it's completely wet. Squeeze out a little of the excess water place this onto your cut. Press firmly but carefully. Hold for about 20 seconds or so then release the tea bag. The bleeding should stop.
NAPPY RASH
- Brown flour or cornflour in a pan till it’s the colour of a paper bag. Let it cool slightly and while it’s still warm put it on with a clean nappy. You can either use it cool or at room temperature after that, but if it’s really bad then warm flour works best.
- Mix a paste of cornflour and Vaseline and apply to the rash.
- Pour milk of magnesia over the rash and you will notice a huge difference by the next nappy change. Use until rash is gone.
- And just plain breast milk works wonders.
